For Patchouli Leaves, Montale ages patchouli leaves for two years in oak barrels. You can smell the patience: round, deep and earthy, softened with vanilla, amber and white musk on a base of Tibetan cistus.
This is patchouli for connoisseurs, far from the hippie cliché: wear it on a jumper in autumn and it lingers for days. Lovers of this dark register should also have smelled Black Aoud.
